The Burnham School was located in Hill County on Route 2, five miles east of Kremlin, MT. Thirty years ago, William Least Heat-Moon traveled 14,000 miles through America’s back roads, stopping in cafes and taverns, meeting people, taking in our gorgeous, diverse landscapes, all of which he chronicled in a blockbuster bestseller entitled Blue Highways. Now, Edgar I. Ailor III and his son, Edgar I. Ailor IV, with camera in hand, have retraced the route, recording what has changed, what remains, and what is most moving in our big, beautiful country, in Blue Highways Revisited, published by University of Missouri Press. The book and the photograph were featured in the 6/12 edition of Reader’s Digest. According to one website, the building is no longer standing.
